10 Reasons why you should get into or continue on in yachting in 2023

With the end of the year upon us, now is when we start to think about what the follow year will hold for us. What plans do we have? What goals do we want to achieve? And what life will hold in store for us the coming year. As you ponder these things, have you thought of yachting as a career and something you would like to explore in 2023. If so, why should yachting be on your list of achievements and goals for 2023?

After a few years of turmoil in the world, that has directly affected many yacht crew both new and established, is yachting still a good choice? 2022 is definitely one to be consigned to the history books. Sadly there were many disappointed people who went to get their first job in yachting and came away empty handed. But on the flip side there were also many successful people. What set them apart? What made some successful while others failed? There are many reasons of course, but a very common one was the people who arrived unprepared and untrained. For experienced crew it was common to hear that their expectations were unrealistic and some bad refences also had a run.

So, after a year of uncertainty for many we want to end the year on a high note and some positive encouragement as to why Yachting is still a great choice for a career. Let’s get started:

1.   Yachting is an industry that caters to very wealthy individuals and there will always be wealthy individuals who own yachts or rent yachts and no amount of strife in the world will stop that. And from what we hear the industry is thriving.

2.   Every year as many people who are entering the industry are also leaving the industry, the turnover of crew will always continue, this means that yachts will always need crew and the industry is growing, with yachts still being ordered and built.

3.   Yachting is still a great way to save, travel and earn good money. Don’t forget to go into the industry with a good financial plan and also Know all your rights and responsibilities in terms of tax declaration in your home country.

4.   Yachting offers a rewarding career that can open doors to places you never thought you would or needed to go. Either in the terms that you can save up to start your dream business, buy that house you wanted or just by connecting with people who offer you opportunities further down the line.

5.   Yachting offers you the opportunity to learn unique life skills and teaches you to be a very hard worker with incredible standards. When you go back to a land job you often find that after yachting you are a great employee, because let’s face it after yachting an 8-hour day is a breeze.

6.   Friends for life! You meet and become friends with people you may never have crossed paths with. The friendships you make on yachts are often forged in adversity or difficult situations and this often creates unique bonds. You may then drift back to your parts of the world, but you will always have those friendships.

7.   You get to learn things about yourself that you may not know. You will be pushed so far out of your comfort zone, and in the process, realise that you are capable of so much more than you ever dreamed. It will stretch your horizons and test your limits and in the process help you grow and become more powerful than you ever imagined was possible

8.   Other people’s cultures. Living and working with people from other countries allows you to learn about other people and in turn (hopefully) makes you a more tolerant and worldly person. By learning about others, we become better people I feel.

9.   Providing the highest level of service and looking after our guests can be very gratifying, and give you a sense of achievement you never thought possible.

10. You get to work in one of the most beautiful and amazing environments in the world, at sea, there is nothing quite like going to sea and being able to witness the beauty and immenseness of the ocean, it really is magical.
